Insulation fault locators

DOLD insulation fault location devices, available from ELTRON, enable precise and quick detection of insulation faults in IT systems. They can be operated without switching off the power supply, which is crucial in installations requiring continuous operation, such as hospitals, process industries, data centres and power plants.

Function and application

The DOLD location system is based on a test current generator and a fault location detector, which communicate via an RS-485 interface in a Master/Slave configuration. This enables integrated monitoring of extensive installations and automatic tracking of sources of insulation impedance drops.

ELTRON offers the following products:

  • RR 5886test current generator, designed for IT networks with voltages from 24 to 360 V AC/DC. It can operate as a master module in a location system, working with multiple detectors.
  • RR 5887insulation fault location detector, operating as a slave device. It supports manual reset from the operator panel and allows full integration with the RS-485 network.
  • ND 5017current transformer that works with the location system to measure test currents generated during insulation condition analysis.

These devices not only detect faults, but also accurately determine their location within the receiving circuits, which significantly reduces service response times and minimises the risk of downtime.

Thanks to their modular design and digital communication, DOLD systems can be flexibly expanded and adapted to individual installation requirements.
