Introduction to Dupline® technology
Modern industrial and building automation systems require reliable, flexible, and scalable communication solutions. One of the most proven and versatile tools in this field is Dupline®, a signal bus developed by Carlo Gavazzi. It is this technology that has enabled designers and integrators to create complex automation systems with minimal cabling complexity.
For over 30 years, Dupline® has been used worldwide in areas such as building automation, lighting management, HVAC, access control, alarm system monitoring, energy management, and industrial automation. In Poland, Dupline® systems are available exclusively through ELTRON – Carlo Gavazzi's official long-term authorized representative.
How does the Dupline® system work?
Dupline® is a bus that allows digital, analog, and pulse signals to be transmitted using only one pair of wires, without the need for shielding. Information is encoded and decoded using special generators and channel modules.
Thanks to its architecture, Dupline® enables signal transmission over distances of up to 3 km, operation in various topologies (bus, star, tree, or ring), and support for up to 128 signals in a single network. The system easily integrates with popular industrial protocols such as Modbus, BACnet, SCADA, BMS, and PLC.
Carlo Gavazzi Dupline® system components
The Dupline® system consists of a wide range of modules and components that can be easily integrated with each other depending on the needs of a specific application.
Channel generators are the heart of the system. They are responsible for encoding and decoding signals, synchronizing transmission, and communicating with master systems. They are available in versions compatible with Modbus, Ethernet, BACnet, and other protocols.
Input/output modules are available in digital (for binary signals), analog (for 0-10V, 4-20 mA signals), and pulse (for monitoring counter events) versions.
Repeaters and expansion modules allow the system to be expanded with additional segments and extend the bus range.
Interfaces and converters enable Dupline® to be connected to external systems such as PLC, SCADA, Modbus RTU/TCP, and BACnet IP.
Carlo Gavazzi also offers environmental sensors compatible with Dupline®: temperature, humidity, CO2, light, as well as dedicated network servers:
Where does the Dupline® system work well?
In building automation and HVAC: Dupline® enables lighting control, blind management, air conditioning and heating, integration with alarms and access control.
In industry: the bus simplifies machine and process monitoring, management of signals from distributed sensors, and integration with master systems.
In urban infrastructure: Dupline® is used in street lighting systems, bus stops, parking lots, and automation of public space elements.
In elevators and parking systems: the system supports elevator leveling, traffic control, gates, barriers, and remote status signaling.
Integration with UWP 3.0 – intelligent automation in practice
Connecting the Dupline® system to the UWP 3.0 server allows you to create a complete automation ecosystem:
Thanks to UWP 3.0, it is possible to monitor data in real time, create schedules, alarms, reports, and also provide remote access via a browser or application. All this makes the Dupline® system an ideal solution for Smart Buildings, guaranteeing savings, comfort, and reliability.
