The AREX400 is the most popular laser marking machine for applications in the manufacturing. Very often, the mechanical positioning of the marking workpiece is cumbersome or does not provide the required accuracy. Then the solution may be the automatic positioning of the laser project with a vision system. The camera placed next to the marking head uses vision tools to find the detail of interest and sends its X, Y coordinates and angular orientation to the PLC. Then PLC, using the MOVE AND ROTATE DOCUMENT command (with given x, y, angle) sent to the marking machine, shifts and rotates the project within the laser working area. Of course, it is possible to don’t use the PLC and connect the camera directly to the marking machine, but often a PLC is required as it manages the laser, loading the appropriate project and reloading data. Communication between the PLC and the laser can be done using the following protocols: Ethernet TCP / IP, Ethernet IP or Profinet. The positioning accuracy depends primarily on the resolution of the camera's CCD and the focal length of the lens (camera field of view). In practice, accuracies of 0.05mm - 0.1mm are achievable on reasonably priced camera models and they are acceptable for most applications.
